Fathers and sons. It’s about time spent together, not so much what they’re doing. Some kids spend endless hours on a boat, bored as their dad tells them a story and they wait for a fish to bite.
Bob Romanski and his dad, Dick, would hang out every Monday morning with a can of turpentine.
“We would sit there and clean the Stickum off the helmets for hours,” Bob said. “And hours. And hours.”
Dick Romanski served as the equipment manager and worked for the Raiders for almost 50 years, and yes, he introduced the yellowish sticky adhesive to the team in the ’70s to help players hold on to the football.
