From team captain to cut. Two days after Bruce Irvin was relegated to 9 snaps in a loss to the 49ers, he is a Raider no more. This according to Vic Tafur of the Athletic.
On a team with no pass rush to speak of, Irvin not seeing the field was a telltale sign that he was in Jon Gruden’s doghouse. Gruden said Friday that it was a matter of Irvin not fitting what they were doing defensively, basically labeling him a situational pass rusher. And playing from behind so much was not the ideal situation for Irvin to get on the field.
