ALAMEDA — Jon Gruden has publicly praised quarterback Derek Carr too many times to count.
New general manager Mike Mayock chimed in at the NFL scouting combine, calling Carr a “franchise” quarterback.
Given the way Gruden ran through quarterbacks not named Rich Gannon during his first tenure as a head coach with the Raiders and Bucs, he’s viewed with some skepticism.
When it comes to free agency, which begins March 13, it’s clear Carr has no worries. Nor does he in the draft, despite all the Kyler Murray noise. To cut ties with Carr and start over after he spent a season mastering a complicated offense is an idea devoid of logical thought.
