The Raiders released veteran running back Roy Helu Jr., the team announced on Tuesday. This was an expected move after he was placed on season ending injured reserve earlier this week to free up a roster spot.
He wasn't going to play for the Raiders again, and reached an agreement with the team to guarantee his outright release. Helu missed the entire offseason program after choosing to have surgery on both hips. He was ineffective in his first and only season with the Raiders, often name inactive on game day following an injury-riddled start to the year.
When he was moved to IR, head coach Jack Del Rio made it clear the team was moving on from the veteran, who fared well in Washington but never established himself in Oakland.
