Marv Hubbard was remembered Tuesday as a player who epitomized what it meant to be a Raider in the early 1970s.
Hubbard, a fullback who scattered tacklers like bowling pins and led the Raiders in rushing from 1971 through 1974, died in Livermore at age 68 Monday after a long bout with prostate cancer, according to his wife, Virginia Hubbard.
Hall of Fame coach John Madden remembered Hubbard as forever searching for the next would-be tackler, with every carry its own search-and-destroy mission.
“Marv Hubbard was one of the toughest players we ever had,” Madden said.
