Raiders’ defensive play-caller John Pagano: First interception was ‘like the Holy Grail’

John Pagano may have been calling plays for the Raiders defense for the first time last weekend, but he was as happy as anyone to see the unit get its first interception this season, snapping a streak of 10 games without one.

“Oh god, we celebrated,” Pagano said Thursday. “It was like the Holy Grail they brought walking over. It was outstanding. I wanted to put that ball on a pedestal.”

Overall, Pagano said he thought the defense “played fast” in a 21-14 win over Denver. The Raiders allowed their fewest total yards this season (219) and had five sacks against a Broncos team that started Paxton Lynch at quarterback for the first time in 2017.
