ALAMEDA — Paul Guenther had no chance.
The Raiders have had a lot of bad defenses over the years, with their coordinators catching much of the heat from Raider Nation. The last time the Raiders were in the top 10 defensively was 2002, when they checked in at No. 6 under Chuck Bresnahan and not coincidentally won an AFC championship.
Ever since, it’s been a series of unfortunate victims with extenuating circumstances. Rob Ryan and John Marshall were under the thumb of owner Al Davis in terms of scheme, as was Bresnahan when he returned in 2011.
