The Raiders just pulled up a chair by the NFL’s waiver wire. Oakland needs a lot of linebackers Sunday.
Clearly not impressed with what they have, the Raiders cut outside linebackers Shilique Calhoun and LaTroy Lewis and inside linebacker Jelani Jenkins as they got down to the league-mandated 53 players Saturday afternoon.
Calhoun was the team’s third-round draft pick a year ago and he put on 10 pounds of muscle in the offseason. That didn’t seem to impact his play-making ability until a garbage-time sack in the preseason finale Thursday. Lewis, meanwhile, had three sacks and a touchdown return off a fumble in the preseason but the undrafted rookie out of Tennessee didn’t figure to beat out Calhoun.
