The Las Vegas Raiders would have lost Sunday without the efforts of little-used cornerback Isaiah Johnson. However, a day after he saved the Raiders’ 31-26 win at the Los Angeles Chargers, coach Jon Gruden indicated Johnson will remain a backup.
Gruden called the 2019 fourth-round pick a “work in progress.” Johnson, who has been oft injured, entered the game in the second quarter when starting cornerback Trayvon Mullen left with hamstring tightness. Johnson made back-to-back game-saving plays on the final two plays of the game, including a touchdown that was overturned on review on the final play of the game.
