OAKLAND — Entering Sunday, the Raiders’ three active running backs had carried 138 times this season and only fumbled once.
Doug Martin’s cough-up against the Colts five weeks ago stood as the lone gaffe among him, Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, with the latter two rushing a combined 51 times in the first 12 weeks without a fumble.
Against the Chiefs, in just 39 minutes of game time, each one lost the ball on a rushing attempt. Martin in the first quarter. Washington the second. Richard the third.
Despite averaging a season-high 6.1 yards per carry with 171 rushing yards on 28 tries, the Raiders’ three fumbles cast a shadow over an otherwise sturdy ground game as the Raiders (2-10) narrowly missed the upset of the 2018 NFL season in a 40-33 loss to the Chiefs (10-2).
