When I began this exercise to write 10 columns in 10 hours, I wanted some of them to react to the news as it happened. Friday, there was no more significant or troubling news in sports than a report from the Washington Post. The newspaper says that National Football League teams violated federal laws governing prescription drugs and disregarded guidance from the Drug Enforcement Administration on how to store, track, transport and distribute controlled substances.
That’s grim stuff. According to the Post, the league plied their players with powerful painkillers and anti-inflammatories each season, according to sealed court documents contained in a federal lawsuit filed by former players.
