The Oakland Raiders opted to hire a defensive mind as their newest head coach this offseason, giving control on the sidelines to Jack Del Rio, a man who was a former NFL linebacker before becoming a successful HC and defensive coordinator after his playing career. Owner Mark Davis and general manager Reggie McKenzie deciding to give the proven Del Rio a second chance at head coaching after a successful stint with the Denver Broncos as a coordinator following his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In adding Del Rio the Raiders hope to have an improved defense with pieces in place to do so as Khalil Mack appears to be a franchise pass rusher and additions such as Dan Williams along with safety Nate Allen were brought in to give more veteran talent to the roster.
