With the concerns surrounding the Oakland Raiders’ depth behind Pro Bowl back Latavius Murray, Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie pulled the trigger on former Texas Tech running back DeAndre Washington with the 143rd pick in the 2016 NFL draft.
At 5’8”, 204 pounds, Washington is a compact, physical runner with upside as a tackle-breaker in space, as he will surprise defenders with his ability to power through arm tackles, and his elite quickness and agility will allow him to slip by defenders in the open field. Though he is confident in his ability to do the dirty work in between the tackles, Washington best projects as an elite third-down back, as he is most valuable when catching the football out of the backfield as a check down receiver or in the screen game.
