INDIANAPOLIS — Mike Mayock went a step further Wednesday in pledging his support for his starting quarterback.
At the Senior Bowl last month, Mayock said there aren’t 32 starting-caliber quarterbacks in the NFL, but that Derek Carr is one of them. At the NFL Scouting Combine this week, Mayock elevated his praise and called Carr a “franchise quarterback.”
There has been outside speculation this offseason, however unsubstantiated, that Carr may not be the Raiders’ long-term solution. Since breaking his leg in the penultimate regular season game of 2016, derailing his promising MVP campaign, Carr has been underwhelming as the Raiders have gone 10-22 since.
