ALAMEDA – Raiders general manager Mike Mayock told his scouts to head home and stay there heading into Easter weekend. He made the decision to do so three weeks ago.
Mayock said it was his alone, an act that was well thought. All of the team’s pre-draft information had been gathered, and it was time for head coach/final say Jon Gruden and Mayock to decisions those scouts would not be involved in. He was free to cut them loose and did so Friday.
Mayock didn’t expect the news to become such a huge deal, especially considering he had reasons for doing so.
