In the end, Raiders coach Jack Del Rio saw it the same way most observers did when it came to the backup quarterback competition.
“He just really was the better guy in our evaluation,” Del Rio said of Matt McGloin, who won the backup job over Christian Ponder, whom the Raiders released Saturday.
“We appreciated the effort and the healthy competition that they had, but in the end we felt like it was the right choice for us to go with Matt.”
McGloin completed 73.7 percent of his exhibition passes for a team-leading 424 yards and four touchdowns, against one interception.
