When the then-Oakland Raiders made Mike Mayock their general manager back in December of 2018, many questioned whether he was the right man for the job. Though a former NFL player himself, Mayock had been an analyst on television prior to taking over as general manager, and had no experience in the role.
In his first assignment, Mayock headed to the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, where he scouted a bunch of future Raiders. It was clear that his goal was to inject the Raiders organization with championship players, and so far, that has worked out.
