Jon Gruden is a grinder. He wakes wake up before some of us go to sleep to watch hours of tape.
He loves this stuff. He lives for it. He even did it when he wasn’t coaching.
And in that frame-by-frame analysis, he’s looking for advantages, big and small, for his weekly gameplan and the piece de resistance of it — his play-calling script.
Gruden learned about scripting his early plays from the great Bill Walsh — the first 10, 15, sometimes 20 plays of the game will go according to the plan that Gruden sprouts after countless hours in front of a monitor at the Raiders’ facility in Alameda.
