The Karl Joseph era apparently won’t begin with him in the starting lineup.
The Raiders released their updated depth chart Tuesday and have Nate Allen listed as the starter at strong safety. Joseph, the team’s first-round pick, had held that spot since the team’s initial depth chart of the exhibition season.
It’s not a huge surprise if you consider how Joseph has been used in recent weeks. In the third exhibition game against Tennessee in which the starters played into the third quarter, he played only 22 defensive snaps. That was the fewest among projected starters.
“He’s still growing,” coach Jack Del Rio said of Joseph after the Tennessee game.
