The Oakland Raiders held three first round picks this past April, and with their final one, they selected Mississippi State safety Johnathan Abram. A hard-hitting defensive back, Abram will jump right into the mix in this Raiders defensive backfield, and could have an immediate impact on a revamped defense.
Prior to the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders signed former Los Angeles Rams safety Lamarcus Joyner, but the expectation is that he will move to the nickel corner spot for Oakland. That means that Abram will have a legitimate shot to earn a starting job as a rookie, and all early returns look like he is going to be a special player.
