ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Not only did the Oakland Raiders' hiring of John Pagano as assistant head coach/defense on Monday essentially give the team three defensive coordinators, it might have also crystallized the Raiders' future base alignment.
Pagano joins the staff of Jack Del Rio, who was a D.C. with the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos, while Ken Norton, Jr., who was often embattled last season as the Raiders' D.C., remains in place.
Pagano, the Chargers' defensive coordinator from 2012 through 2016, ran a 3-4 base defense, but would show four-man fronts in passing downs.
