ALAMEDA — The first time Derrick Johnson spoke with Bay Area media, almost a month ago shortly after he signed with the Raiders, he referred to his fellow linebackers by number only.
He used “54,” “59” and “55” to describe Emmanuel Lamur, Tahir Whitehead and Marquel Lee, refraining from names for fear of botching them.
Using full names Tuesday was just one of the ways Johnson showed the strides he’s made in adjusting to life in silver in black after 13 seasons with the division rival Chiefs. Kansas City fans will be thrilled to know their longtime middle linebacker seems to be reveling in his role with the Raiders, only his second team since entering the league in 2005.
