ALAMEDA — Gareon Conley is on the field, at least, and that’s worth something.
The Raiders’ 2017 first-round pick missed the final 13 games of 2017 with a shin injury, playing in only Weeks 2 and 3 of his rookie season after being taken 24th overall in the draft. He was limited at the beginning of offseason workouts in 2018, too, but now seems to carry no restrictions, though it’s difficult to tell during OTAs with no official injury report.
Conley’s brief stint on the field last season offered a promising glimpse at what could be. Instead the Raiders secondary devolved into mediocrity without him, not that his inclusion would’ve lifted it from the gutter anyway.
