The Fritz Pollard Alliance has called for the NFL to investigate whether the Raiders violated the Rooney Rule in hiring Jon Gruden as head coach.
The Rooney Rule requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coach and general manager openings. The Fritz Pollard Alliance promotes minority hiring in the league.
The group’s counsel, Cyrus Mehri and N. Jeremi Duru, released a statement Wednesday questioning whether comments Raiders owner Mark Davis made Tuesday meant the Raiders violated the Rooney Rule.
Davis felt Gruden was “all in” on Christmas Eve with regards to becoming Oakland’s next head coach, he said at Gruden’s introductory press conference in Alameda.
