TAMPA, Fla. -- Donald Penn’s cell phone came to life the night before the Oakland Raiders’ game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. A text had come in from an old teammate in defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.
“You better not try to score no touchdowns,” Penn recalled McCoy’s text saying.
Penn’s response?
“Nah, man. Nah.”
Turns out the Oakland left tackle’s text game was as secretive and as strong as his pass-catching game. Because it was his 1-yard touchdown catch on a tackle-eligible play in the third quarter that tied the score at 10-10 and jumpstarted what had been a misfiring Oakland offense en route to a 30-24 overtime victory.
