ALAMEDA — Paul Guenther doesn’t think the Raiders need George Iloka, or at least he’s just not admitting it.
Iloka, the safety who started on Guenther’s defense in Cincinnati, was released by the Bengals on Sunday. Guenther, the new Raiders defensive coordinator, didn’t expect the move.
“I was kind of surprised they let him go,” Guenther said Tuesday. “George has been a really good steady player for them for a long time. Really developed through the system, knows it inside and out.”
As in, knows Guenther’s system inside and out. Which is why Iloka seems like a plausible target for the Raiders, a team who could use upgrades at safety.
