Some of the country's top brain researchers gathered Wednesday at the Boston University School of Medicine for the start of a seven-year, $16 million research project designed to find a test for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and identify its risk factors, the Associated Press reported.
The project had originally been set to receive money from the NFL, but league complaints about the Boston University researchers led the National Institutes of Health to pay with it through other funds.Doctors in attendance were more interested in moving ahead with the study rather than being concerned with the NFL's issues with the researchers.
