There is trouble with the Raiders’ planned move to Las Vegas, big trouble, and even if this all probably was foreseeable, that doesn’t make it any less problematic for owner Mark Davis.
Sheldon Adelson, the main financial and political force behind the Las Vegas push, announced yesterday that he was out of the project and it does not sound like it was a happy breakup with Davis.
Remember, even though the potential influence or presumed path to ownership for a casino magnate raised questions for NFL owners (one of the very foreseeable issues), Adelson is immensely powerful in Vegas, and his support was essential in securing $750M in public bonds (tied to a hotel tax) for this project.
