Every home game, a torch in honor of the legendary Al Davis is lit at The Coliseum. In Mexico City, that tradition will continue, with a special guest doing the honors.
Tommie Smith, an Olympic Gold Medalist at the 1968 games in Mexico City, who became a civil rights icon when he took a stand on the medal podium and rose his right fist into the air, will light the torch.
This is truly a nice touch by Mark Davis and the Raiders, to have Smith light the Al Davis torch in the same city where Smith made his iconic statement.
