Long before Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen tormented NFL secondaries, he roamed the secondary. Raiders cornerback David Amerson remembers.
Allen and Amerson grew up in Greensboro, N.C. They played one memorable high school game against each other, Amerson and Dudley High prevailing by four points over Allen and Northern Guilford.
Allen, who would become a standout wide receiver at Cal, still left his mark. As Amerson described it last week, Allen had “something like 20 tackles” from his free-safety position.
Asked about this in a phone interview the next day, Allen matter of factly said, “Twenty-three.
