When the Oakland Raiders signed free agent Breno Giacomini this offseason, the hope was he would compete for the starting right tackle job. With Donald Penn returning at left tackle, and a rookie first rounder, Giacomini was given the chance to own that spot this summer.
However, the tackle could not stay healthy, and after not playing a single snap in the preseason, he was released by the team on Monday. We spoke of his pending danger to not make the 53-man roster earlier in the day.
The release was a long time coming, as Penn has returned to take that right tackle job with the rookie, Kolton Miller, showing he can start on the left side.
