Former NFL player Aldon Smith, who is accused of domestic violence, was arraigned in a San Francisco courtroom Thursday for allegedly violating a restraining order that prohibited him from contacting the alleged victim in that case.
San Francisco Superior Court Judge Ross Moody granted prosecutor Courtney Burris’ request that Smith be ordered to wear an ankle monitor that detects alcohol consumption through sweat.
The Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor, or SCRAM, is a transdermal alcohol testing system — it automatically samples sweat at random intervals for traces of alcohol released through the skin and transmits the results to a monitoring service.
