It was a crazy Friday morning for Aldon Smith.
First, the former 49ers’ All-Pro signed a one-year contract with the Oakland Raiders, that could be worth up to $8 million with incentives. His agent told The Chronicle there were a number of other teams interested, but Smith left some money on the table to stay in the Bay Area.
Shortly after the deal was inked, Smith was charged by Santa Clara County prosecutors with three misdemeanor counts related to his Aug. 6 arrest on suspicion of driving intoxicated, vandalism and hit-and-run.
All in a day’s work in the modern NFL, where on-field performance mixes with off-field misdeeds on a regular basis.
