As if last week in the NFL was exciting, but now that the “legal tampering” period is here, things are going to explode for the Oakland Raiders. Side note, legal tampering is quite the oxymoron. One would think they would have come up with a better name such as “negotiating” period.
Anyway, the Raiders kicked off their week by cutting two starters from last year’s team. Cornerback Sean Smith and starting right tackle Marshall Newhouse were both released on Monday, as the team tries to shed some salary heading into free agency.
Smith’s release came just prior to news breaking that he was accepting a plead deal on his felony assault charge.
