OAKLAND — Twelve men and women have been charged in a widespread theft ring that targeted UPS and Federal Express truck drivers making cell phone deliveries to cellular phone stores with the total loss estimated to be at least $1 million, authorities said Thursday.
Among those arrested is a 22-year-old man who was briefly with the Oakland Raiders last month.
Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O”Malley announced the charges in a news release and said eight suspects have been arrested and four others are being sought.
O’Malley said the extensive investigation spanned four months and involved 31 cities and 10 counties throughout Northern and Central California.
