The Oakland Raiders won't be without their starting left tackle for much longer. Donald Penn will reportedly end his holdout and report to the team this week.
Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports Penn will join the team as soon as Tuesday. Penn held out for all of training camp in Napa, California, hoping to get a new contract. Penn is set to make just $5.95 million this year.
Tafur reports a new contract won't happen for Penn once he reports. However, negotiations could increase once Penn reports. That was General Manager Reggie McKenzie's viewpoint throughout the Penn holdout.
The timing of a return makes sense. Penn will be able to play in the third preseason game, the one that "matters" the most. It will also allow the Raiders to truly let Marshall Newhouse and Vadal Alexander engage in that battle for the starting right tackle gig.

Penn, despite being 34 years old, wants a raise. Coming off a Pro Bowl year, Penn is just the 23rd highest paid left tackle in the NFL. He's one of the lowest paid starting LTs, excluding players on their rookie deals. The top reference point for any new deal might be 35-year-old Andrew Whitworth, who signed a 3-year, $33.5 million deal with $15 million guaranteed this offseason with the Rams.
