The Oakland Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak in breakneck fashion on Sunday, capitalizing on a fourth-down defensive holding call with under two minutes to go to secure a 24-21 comeback road win over the Tennessee Titans.
Down 21-17 with five minutes to go, Raiders QB Derek Carr captained a nine-play, 90-yard TD drive punctuated by a 12-yard scoring connecton with WR Seth Roberts. The season-saving drive was extended on a 4th-and-8 on the Titans 36 when Tennessee CB B.W Webb was flagged for the crucial holding call. Carr capitalized in a big way, hitting on back-to-back completions to Mychal Rivera and the aforementioned Roberts to lead the Raiders to paydirt.
Titans rookie QB Marcus Mariota would throw a bad pick to CB Nate Allen to finish things off, pushing the Raiders to 5-6 and keeping the Silver and Black in the thick of the AFC Wild Card chase. Mariota finished 17/37 for 218 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. He didn't get much help on the ground, as the Titans mustered just 44 yards on 18 carries.
On the other side, Carr had himself another field day -- going 24/38 for 330 yards and three big touchdown tosses, two of those to Seth Roberts and the other to Michael Crabtree. Carr's aerial display papered over a rough day for the Raiders on the ground. Oakland was stuffed by Tennessee's front seven all day, gaining just 84 yards on 30 carries.
Tennessee falls to 2-9 on the year in advance of an AFC South showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars next week. Oakland will look to move to .500 in a division clash against AFC West rival and fellow Wild Card contender Kansas City. Oakland currently sits a game behind KC for the #6 seed.
