The Oakland Raiders have now won three of their last five games after starting the season 0-10 and seeing their former head coach Dennis Allen lose his job after four games. Interim head coach Tony Sparano has stepped in and has this team playing much better football, which has caused some to wonder if he'll be in Oakland full time next year.
Sparano has one-year remaining on his current deal - he signed a three-year deal for the position of assistant head coach/offensive line coach - and he's the only member of the coaching staff with a contract that extends beyond the end of this season. He's both gotten the support and praise from numerous players and coaches who want him back next year.
"The guys continue to come out fighting, when it would be very easy to do the opposite," said defensive back Charles Woodson. "This team has never really gotten down to the point where we were ready to give up."
"We are trying to change the culture," quarterback Derek Carr told Ann Killion of the San Francisco Chronicle. "And we are changing the culture. We know if we keep fighting and working hard, it's going to get there."
Sparano has been in the NFL for 16 seasons, four as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.
