In this Raiders news update, Oakland Raiders head coach Tony Sparano remains behind offensive coordinator Greg Olso, despite a running game on pace to set the worst yards per game average in the league since 1946.
“I have all the confidence in the world in Greg,” Sparano said on Monday, via Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area. “I think Greg’s done a very good job since I’ve been here with Greg as far as him running his (unit) and doing the things he needs to do that way."
“At this point in time, everybody’s looking for answers. We have to stay the course in what our beliefs are.”
Sparano has given Olson full control over the offense, and although the running game is in shambles, Olson continues to do wonders with rookie quarterback Derek Carr's development despite plenty of adversity.
“To be honest with you, the guy is one of the brighter minds I’ve been around in this business,” Sparano said. “He’s done a good job. I’m not calling plays. I have input into the game plan obviously. I have quite a bit of input on both sides of the ball right now. As far as calling the plays go, that’s Greg’s responsibility."
If the losses continue to the pile up and the offense continues to struggle, questions about Olson aren't going to go away. However, as it looks now, Sparano is ready to stand behind his offensive coordinator regardless.
