LEXINGTON, Ky. — Right after Kentucky basketball’s 90-81 win over Alabama Saturday, a young UK fan asked a tall man — former Wildcat Daniel Orton — just how tall he was.
And a minute later, a blue-clad spectator approached Ramel Bradley to ask if, pretty please, she could get a quick video of him giving a shout out to a friend. A little while after that, fans gathered around Immanuel Quickley, who, sporting a New York Knick jacket, had formed the “Y” as UK cheerleaders spelled out “Kentucky.”
Saturday marked one of the most impressive wins of the season for the 2021-22 Wildcats — considering they were without their top two ball-handlers in TyTy Washington and Sahvir Wheeler, who are both day-to-day with injuries — and among the crowd of 20,374 were more than 50 former UK players, who were invited back as part of “Letterman’s Day.
