The NCAA loves to remind us that most college athletes “go pro in something other than sports.” At the highest levels of college basketball, however, players are looking to gain exposure and development in hopes of making their way into the NBA. There is a bargain struck during this process. Recruits commit to help a program win games a championships. Coaches convince recruits that their program is the best place to develop into an NBA player. The top programs earn (and promote) their reputation as a sort of “finishing school” for eventual NBA players.
