LEXINGTON — Here are five things to know about Kentucky football’s Belk Bowl opponent, Virginia Tech.
1. Familiar foe returns
Kentucky has not played Virginia Tech since Frank Beamer built the program into an ACC power in the 1990s, but the two programs met frequently in the 1970s and 1980s. UK holds an 11-6-2 advantage in the series and won seven straight between 1969 and 1978. The two programs last met in 1987, a 14-7 win for Kentucky in Lexington. That was Beamer's first season as Virginia Tech's coach.
