While Kentucky prepares for Week 1 against Central Michigan, assistant coach John Schlarman certainly has his mind on other things as well.
Schlarman is battling cancer. He found out this summer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments, hoping to beat it.
“We’re at the start of the process, really,” he said, according to Jen Smith of the Lexington Herald Leader. “Everything has gone really well. Feel a lot better now than I did probably in the middle of June before we started this treatment stuff. That’s a good sign.”
Schlarman is a former Kentucky offensive lineman, and he was an in-state star at Highlands High School.
