A well-known figure around the Kentucky Football program passed away yesterday.
Steve Ortmayer, a former UK Football assistant head coach under Rich Brooks, passed away yesterday at the age of 77.
Ortmayer spent 40+ years in football coaching, spending 2003-2009 at Kentucky. He started his career at the University of Colorado in 1967 with stops in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and Green Bay Packers.
He won two Super Bowl rings with the Oakland Raiders as a special teams coach.
After some time as a front office executive in the NFL, Ortmayer returned to coaching to join his friend Rich Brooks in Lexington, where he was assistant head coach while coaching special teams and tight ends.
