It’s the first Friday of the high school football season and to celebrate, we’ve got quite a treat for you. In the 1990s, Tim Couch became a gridiron legend in Eastern Kentucky, lighting up fields for Leslie County. Another household name went head-to-head with Couch on more than one occasion: country music star Chris Stapleton.
Before he was a Grammy Award-winning musician, Stapleton played linebacker and running back for the Johnson Central Golden Eagles. Leslie County and Johnson Central played each other three times during Couch and Stapleton’s high school careers. Johnson Central won the first game, Leslie County the second.
