Although the Commodores went 9-23 this season and were winless in the SEC, the move comes as a bit of a shock since Drew was doing what few have done before: convince five-star recruits to come to Vanderbilt. This season, Vanderbilt had two five-stars on the roster: Simi Shittu and Darius Garland, who went down with a season-ending knee injury in November. The ‘Dores have two top 150 players signed in the Class of 2019 too and a verbal commitment from Scotty Pippen, the son of NBA great Scottie Pippen.
Vanderbilt athletic director Malcom Turner, the former president of the NBA G-League who took the job less than two months ago, explained the decision in a press release.
