University of Louisville, former athletics employee settle whistleblower suit for $25K

A former University of Louisville athletics employee who filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the university in 2018 settled the suit this month.

Kimberly Maffet, who once served as the associate athletic director for human resources and was fired in February 2018, claimed in her lawsuit that she was targeted for being a whistleblower, discriminated against because of her illnesses and wrongfully fired.

According to the settlement agreement obtained through a records request, the suit was settled for $25,000. Louisville also agreed to pay Maffet's share of her mediator's fee from the lawsuit.

In her lawsuit, Maffet alleged that during her time at the university, she witnessed noncompliance with the school's sexual harassment policy, including an unnamed coach who had an affair with a "co-employee.
