When the men’s basketball at the University of Kentucky is as storied as it is, that becomes all that the athletic department is known for. And, for awhile, the athletic department at UK was focused solely on making sure that the men’s hoops team had everything it needed, sometimes at the expense of all the other sports. Since Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart arrived in Lexington, the focus has been making the athletic department the best it can be with all sports competing for conference and national championships.
For the 2013-14 athletic season, the Wildcat Athletic Department finished 11th in the country in the Sports Directors Cup standings, which ranks college department based on the performance of all competing teams.
