LEXINGTON, Ky. — What Estelle Gabriel served up to West Jessamine in the semifinals was just hors' d'oeuvres. The senior defender saved the main course for Saturday night.
Sacred Heart's long-range set piece specialist, Gabriel delivered the winning goal in the final 20 minutes to lift the Valkyries to a 2-1 win over the Highlands Bluebirds in the girls soccer state championship game at Frederick Douglass High School
"Estelle has a really great free kick and she scored earlier with a great one against West Jessamine, too," said Sacred Heart senior star Ashley Durik, who scored in all four state tournament games and before the final was honored as the 2018-19 Midway University/KHSAA Girls Soccer Student-Athlete of the Year.
