LEXINGTON - After beating Kentucky by 51 points as South Carolina's coach in 2011, Steve Spurrier famously joked, "Kentucky has a heck of a punter."
Imagine what the legendary coach would have said if he faced Max Duffy.
Kentucky's Australian punter was named the 2019 Ray Guy Award winner Thursday, officially anointing him college football's best punter. Duffy leads the country in average punt distance (48.6 yards) and has placed 51% of his punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
Duffy was also named a Walter Camp first-team All-American Thursday. He is the first UK player to win the Ray Guy Award, which has honored college football's best punter since 2000.
